Bag in a Day with Susan Boucher
Bag in a Day with Susan Boucher
Date: Sunday 23rd of June
Time: 10 am - 3 pm
This workshop is a fun way to learn the basic skills of patchwork. It is a lovely project that teaches you how to use your rotary cutter, ruler and board, piecing and the “ quilt-as-you-go technique of patchworking. Susan has a secret little trick she shares on this bag to make the lining stay in place and stops it from creeping around inside. At the end of the day, you will go home with a completed project ready to be used or given away.
Requirements:
Sewing machine with a standard foot and ¼” foot (optional)
Cutting board and rotary cutter
Quilter’s ruler(s)
Pins
Scissors
Thread in colour to match the bag or neutral (grey or cream)
Needle and thread for hand-sewing the binding (one option)
For the bag you will need the following:
Two 6 ½” x 4 ½” background fabrics for centre blocks
10cn (4”) of 10 different fabrics for the log cabin strips (5 light and 5 dark or two
contrast colours)
20cm (7 ½”) fabric for handles and binding
50cm (18”) fabric for lining
1m needlepunch
15cm iron on pellon
10cm bungee elastic or elastic hair tie to match fabric (this is for the button loop)
1 shank button
To save time on class day, you could cut your fabrics for the bag body into strips 1½” across the width of the fabric.
