Ring of Birds Needlelace
Ring of Birds Needlelace
Date: 25th & 26th July
Time: 10am - 3:30pm
Tutor: Shirley Pygott
Create a stunning needle lacework featuring New Zealand’s beloved Tui and Fantail perched among a Pohutukawa tree. This beautiful 15cm circular design showcases traditional needlelace techniques, combining both flat and three-dimensional elements worked in five different thread weights.
Throughout the project, you will explore a variety of needlelace fillings to create rich pattern, texture, and depth, all connected by an elegant net ground. The finished piece can be completed either with or without wire reinforcement, making it suitable for hanging.
Although the project itself will not be fully completed during the workshop, all of the techniques required to finish it confidently at home will be thoroughly taught and demonstrated.
This workshop is for a confident stitcher, as it is a skill building project for those who want to develop their technique in needlelace. Participants should be comfortable working with simple needlelace and familiar with detached buttonhole stitch, both with and without return. As some sections involve fine detail, magnification may be useful.
Join us for an inspiring two days of needlelace making as you develop new skills and create a uniquely New Zealand piece to treasure.
